MIAMI (February 1, 2022) – The Miami FC announced Tuesday the signing of forward Romeo Parkes, pending league and federation approval. Parkes is an experienced USL Championship player who arrives at Miami with a repertoire filled with goals and skill.
“I’m delighted we’ve been able to get Romeo signed and over the line,” said Miami FC head coach Anthony Pulis. “He is an experienced player with great technical ability and incredible pace. He will offer us something a little different to what we currently have in the squad and really increases the competition for places in the forward area.”
Born in Port Maria, Jamaica, Parkes is a natural forward who can play centrally as a striker or out wide as a winger on either side. The 31-year-old is coming off a four-goal, three-assist season in his second stint with Ireland’s Premier Division side Sligo Rovers. His goals and assists helped the Rovers to a third-place finish in 2021. Moreover, he bagged two goals in a domestic cup 3-2 loss against Cork City and played the entirety of two UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifying matches.
Parkes went out on loan to the USL Championship’s New Mexico United in 2020. He registered one goal and two assists in 14 regular-season games and scored a goal in a playoff game against El Paso Locomotive.
In 2019, before his loan to New Mexico, Parkes joined Sligo Rovers, where he scored 11 goals and dished out three assists over 30 league games. Also, the Jamaican made five goal contributions – two goals, three assists – in domestic cup action.
Before his first taste of European soccer, Parkes spent three seasons in the USL Championship with the Pittsburg Riverhounds, three seasons with El Salvador’s Isidro Metapan and five seasons playing for five different teams in his homeland. He won the Primera Division de Futbol de El Salvador Apertura and Clausura in 2014 with Metapan.
Parkes made his senior team international debut for Jamaica in 2012, earning four appearances and scoring once in 2015 in a friendly against Cuba.
“We’ve wanted to build a squad where there is serious competition in all areas of the field, so the players are constantly pushing each other every day and in turn raising their performance levels,” said Pulis. “On top of all this, Romeo is a great guy who I know will fit into the locker room very well.”
