Miami, Fla. (Saturday, March 21) – The Miami Football Club remains undefeated at home after a goalless draw against Loudoun United on Saturday night. The stalemate was Miami’s first draw in its 2022 USL Championship campaign.
Head coach Anthony Pulis made some changes ahead of the game due to players being out with injuries and on international duty.
Defensive midfielder Dennis Dowouna made his Miami FC debut, covering for Devon “Speedy” Williams, who is currently representing Jamaica in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. Attacking midfielder Florian Valot and winger Christian Sorto appeared in Pulis’ starting 11 for the first time this season. Left-back Othello Bah saw his first-bit action of the season, playing the entire game. And goalkeeper Jake McGuire made his second start for Miami between the posts.
Miami FC had a lively start to the game, scoring in the 12th minute of the outing. However, defender Luca Antonelli’s goal was disallowed by the referee due to captain Paco Craig’s interference with play from an offsides position.
In the 31st minute, Valot served a one-timed cross to the second post that, met by captain Paco Craig whose headed attempt glided over the bar.
McGuire produced the play of the match in the 56th minute, getting low quickly to his right to push away a point-blank-headed attempt from Loudoun’s Houssou Landry. Nine minutes later, the Pomona, Calif., native snatched the ball from a forward to keep his goal intact.
Loudoun left-wing-back Sami Guediri received his second yellow card of the night, leaving the visitors with a man down for the remaining ten minutes of the encounter. Nonetheless, Miami FC was not able to score a game-winning goal despite pushing for a goal in the dying embers of the match.
