Miami, Fla. (Tuesday, July 5) – The Miami Football Club’s first-choice goalkeeper Connor Sparrow earned Team of the Week honors in Week 17 after a shutout performance on the road against Indy Eleven. The clean sheet is his seventh of the season, placing him at the top of the USL Championship shutout leaderboard.
The 28-year-old made five saves to preserve a 1-0 victory for Miami FC, who had not won a game since its 4-0 away win against Charleston Battery on May 21. Moreover, Sparrow produced a -1.13 Goals minus Expected Goals mark to land MFC in a playoff position – seventh place – in the Eastern Conference.
Sparrow’s biggest moment of the match against the Eleven arrived just ten minutes after forward Josh Pérez scored Miami FC’s game-winning goal. The keeper displayed quick reactions to deny former Miami FC forward Stefano Pinho’s close-range headed attempt.
Sparrow’s numbers this season
Sparrow is living a successful 2022 USL Championship campaign. As mentioned previously, he leads the league in clean sheets alongside Louisville FC’s Kyle Morton and El Paso Locomotive’s Evan Newton. Moreover, the St. Louis native ranks fourth overall in saves (46) produced this year.
