Miami, Fla. (Friday, July 22) – The Miami Football Club travels north to face Loudoun United in Virginia on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Miami FC looks to return to the win column after a goalless draw against Orange County SC over the weekend.
The Orange and Blue hold the seventh position in the Eastern Conference table, with 28 points and an even goal differential after 21 matches. Playoff hopes are alive given that the team is six points above eighth place FC Tulsa.
The game against Loudoun United will serve as an opportunity for head coach Anthony Pulis and his players to avenge the draw against OCSC and separate further from Tulsa.
Previous Meeting: Miami FC 0-0 Loudoun United
Miami FC drew against Loudoun United at FIU Stadium on March 21. On that day, MFC was without goalkeeper Connor Sparrow, center-back Callum Chapman-Page, left-back Aedan Stanley and midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams.
Center-back Luca Antonelli scored a header in the opening 15 minutes of the outing, but the goal was disallowed. The referee called offsides on captain Paco Craig, who apparently interfered with the play.
Loudoun’s five-man backline proved its efficiency, with Miami struggling to create chances in the remainder of the game. However, goalkeeper Jake McGuire made a save in the 56th minute that ended up being the play of the game.
Despite the sending off of a Loudoun United defender with ten minutes to go on the clock, the Orange and Blue were not able to register a goal. All in all, McGuire secured his first clean sheet as an MFC player.
About Loudoun United
Miami FC’s Eastern Conference opponent sits in twelfth position, with 15 points after 18 games. Loudoun’s 15 points are as many as it had last year after 32 league matches. However, hopes of qualifying for this season’s playoffs are practically out the window.
Loudoun United arrives at this contest from a 4-1 home defeat against Tampa Bay Rowdies. Before that, the club from Leesburg, Va., drew 2-2 against FC Tulsa and lost against Orange County SC 3-1. Loudoun’s last victory came against Phoenix Rising on June 18.
The side lost one of its key players in South Florida native Sami Guediri. The former Inter Miami player arrived at Loudoun ahead of the start of the 2022 campaign and left for DC United earlier this month.
