ALBUQUERQUE, NM (July 27, 2021) – New Mexico United professional soccer team and arts and entertainment group Meow Wolf announced today they will hold the second “Meow Wolf Night” on Saturday, August 14, 2021, when United takes on the El Paso Locomotive.
As witnessed at the inaugural Meow Wolf night in 2019, an unforgettable experience for all ages is to be expected as these two celebrated, community-focused organizations join forces. New Mexicans are invited to take part in the amazing collective energy of art and sport and to help send the Locomotive straight back to El Paso.
A limited-edition jersey created by iconic New Mexican artist Nico Salazar will be worn during the game by the New Mexico United team. The first 3,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a limited-edition New Mexico United flag. The jersey and other limited-edition merch will be on sale Aug 12th on sale at the New Mexico United Team Store and the Meow Wolf Shop in Santa Fe.
Meow Wolf Night kicks off at around 4:00 p.m. at an otherworldly tailgate party featuring the local DJ O on the turntables for a “Costume Creature Disco,” artists creating incredible pieces, stilt walkers, magical masked performances, an art supply drive for students, cookie decorating with Albuquerque’s own Rude Boy Cookies, and special appearances throughout the evening by beloved Meow Wolf character, Snaggy.
“Combining art and sport in fun, new, experiential ways and bringing those communities together has been at the heart of New Mexico United since day one,” said Peter Trevisani, President, and Owner of New Mexico United. “We are incredibly excited to partner with our friends at Meow Wolf on this thrilling evening. We can’t wait to see your costumes!”
Fans are encouraged to participate in the festivities by arriving in their best United soccer and/or Meow Wolf-inspired costumes, with prizes awarded to first, second, and third place winners. More surprises throughout the night should be expected.
“We are proud to be aligned with New Mexico United and have gone all out to make this evening an event to remember. After the difficult past year, it’s time to get out, be with our community and have a great time. Let’s go, United!” said Meow Wolf’s Co-CEO Carl Christensen.
The partnership between New Mexico’s professional soccer team and the Santa Fe based, world-renowned arts and entertainment group is unique in the sports world and represents the creative culture prevalent in New Mexico.
