The RailHawks U-23’s squad departed for San Antonio, Texas this morning in a quest to claim the 2013 USASA U-23 National Cup. In the opening match the U-23’s will take on South Sound FC of Tacoma, Washington, in a 9:00am Semifinal Round matchup on Friday, July 19th. With a victory, the U-23’s will advance to the Championship match on Saturday night at 6:00pm.
The RailHawks U-23 squad comes off staggering victories at the USASA National Cup Region III competition, where they took on clubs from Louisiana, Charlotte and South Texas. In those matches the U-23’s, led by head coach Dewan Bader, swept their competition 7-1, 3-0 and 9-1 and tallied a goal differential of +17.
In their past tournament endeavors, the RailHawks U-23’s squad won the USASA National Cup in 2011, and lost on penalty kicks in the semifinals in 2012. Last month marked the 3rd straight year that the RailHawks U-23’s claimed regional dominance and players and coaches are eager to return to the National Cup after last year’s loss.
“All the players, coaches, and administrators have waited a year to return to the National Cup,” said Bader. “Last year’s result was gut-wrenching to lose on penalty kicks and the boys have worked hard to get back to this point. We are thankful to the NCASA, USASA Region III, and our sponsor JRW Associates for making this all possible and for their continued support.”
With a win against South Sound FC on Friday, the RailHawks U-23’s will move on to the championship against the winner of the Real Caribe S.C. (New York) and GLSA FC 74 (Illinois) match. All matches will take place at the Star Complex in San Antonio, Texas.
The RailHawks U-23’s are sponsored by JRW Associates (www.jrwassoc.com), a United Benefit Advisors firm that covers over 10 million members. For more information on the RailHawks organization and the U-23 program visit CarolinaRailHawks.com, or (919) 859-KICK (5425).
