Cary, NC (August 26, 2020)- North Carolina FC fell 1-0 to the Charlotte Independence tonight despite possessing the ball for 60% of the match. The loss marked the first time NCFC has been defeated by the Independence in seven matches.
In the 30th minute, Hadji Barry had one of the best looks on goal of the match and forced a save by Charlotte goalkeeper Brandon Miller. A string of passes near the box gave Barry the open window for a bending shot that caused the diving save.

Charlotte Independence’s Dane Kelly sent a long ball across the field towards the box in the 59th minute to set up the first and only goal of the match. Rey Ortiz flicked the ball up to himself and volleyed the ball into the back of the net in one quick motion to score.
Robert Kristo nearly tied up the match in the 80th minute with a quick turn and a shot just wide of the net. Kristo had Miller out of position but could not get the ball on frame.
