Orange County Soccer Club vs. Seattle Sounders FC 2
2017 USL Regular Season (Week Fourteen)
Orange County Great Park, Irvine, CA
Saturday, June 24 – 5pm PST
Irvine, Calif. (June 24, 2017) It was Orange County Soccer Club who dominated the first half as they took a 3-0 lead in the first 24 minutes of the match to bring home a 4-3 victory over Seattle Sounders FC 2.
Defender Roy Meeus Bond continued his goal streak and started things off for Orange County burying a penalty kick in the 10th minute. Eight minutes later, during an Orange County free kick, Seattle’s Christian Koontz deflected a clearance into his own goal. Then it was Santa Ana native, Ami Pineda, who slipped a pass down the left side from the run of play to connect with Carlos Alvarez who fired a shot past Seattle keeper Tyler Miller to give Orange County a 3-0 lead.
Seattle kept Orange County on their toes in the second half as Brian Nana-Sinkam would score in the 47th minute followed by a penalty kick from Zach Mathers in the 72nd. But Alvarez was determined to bring home the victory for Orange County fans when, in the 80th minute of play, he set up Gustavo Villalobos who expertly slotted the ball into the corner. Attempting to keep their hopes alive, Seattle’s Charles Renken would come back to score in the 87th minute from the left side of the box.
Orange County SC midfielder Carlos Alvarez was pleased with the team’s performance, “It was a good start, the team was pressing, not giving Seattle any sort of room. The early goal set the tone for a professional performance. The team had a great first half, hands down the best half we have had all season,” said Alvarez.
Orange County SC next face Portland Timbers 2 at the Orange County Great Park on Saturday, July 1st at 5:00 PM.
