IRVINE, Calif. (August 31, 2018) – Orange County SC looks to add to its franchise record-breaking win and point totals, as well as continue its ascent in the USL Western Conference standings with a return to action this Sunday. After a visit to the Pacific Northwest last week, which resulted in a 3-2 victory over Portland Timbers FC 2, Orange County SC again heads north this time to take on Seattle Sounders FC 2.
Orange County enters Sunday’s contest following a 2-0 loss to Rio Grande Valley FC Toros over the past weekend at Championship Soccer Stadium. The defeat brought a halt to Orange County SC’s four-match win streak and eight-match unbeaten run. It was only the third loss at home for Orange County this season.
"Our players were disappointed in the performance last Saturday, on the back of a great win in Portland," said Orange County SC Head Coach Braeden Cloutier. "But we’ve had a positive week of training. Everyone is eager to get to Seattle, and get back on track. We know that Seattle will be a strong opponent, so we are looking at it like every match we have played… like a Cup Final."
Sounders FC 2 played at home mid-week and secured a draw against Saint Louis FC. Forward Kyle Greig opened the scoring for Saint Louis before S2’s 20-year-old forward Antonee Burke-Gilroy equalized ten minutes later.
This Sunday’s match is the first meeting between Orange County SC and Seattle Sounders FC 2 this season, with kickoff set for 1:30 PM Pacific Time and live stream on ESPN+ via the ESPN app. The meeting will also mark the return of Orange County winger Darwin Jones to Seattle. The 26-year-old spent two seasons in the Sounders organization, scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances for S2. The two sides are set to face off again on October 6th for Orange County’s regular season home finale in Irvine.
Orange County SC’s next home match is September 8th, when it hosts OKC Energy FC. Tickets are available at https://sportsengine-staging.go-vip.net/orangecountysoccer/tickets, or by calling 949-647-GOAL.
