IRVINE, Calif. (September 18, 2018) – Following their collaboration on August 4th at Championship Soccer Stadium, during which Orange County SC technical staff and players wore special purple laces on matchday to bring awareness to the Alzheimer’s Association’s cause, the organizations today announced this partnership will continue to grow at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine on September 29th for the Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s event.
“We are thankful to have Orange County SC’s support in the battle to fight Alzheimer's disease,” said Alzheimer’s Association Executive Director Anne Grey. “Alzheimer's is the third leading cause of death in Orange County. Corporate support from organizations like Orange County SC, increases awareness that we are here to help and fund impactful research. This moves us closer to the goal of a world without Alzheimer’s."
Orange County SC’s record-breaking performance this year and first-place position in the USL Western Conference standings will help bring further attention to a disease which has so deeply and widely affected the local community—including many members of the team.
“Alzheimer's is a truly devastating disease that not only destroys lives, but significantly impacts the lives of everyone connected to it,” says Orange County SC Assistant GM & SVP of Player Recruitment & Soccer Operations Peter Nugent. “I have the utmost respect for people who dedicate their lives looking after loved ones who are affected by this debilitating illness. This is a battle that my family faces on a daily basis, and the more awareness and support we can raise to tackle this disease the better.”
In addition to participating in the walk itself, Orange County SC players will be on-site beforehand to meet and greet with event attendees. Any fans interested in snapping a photo, receiving an autograph and sharing stories about how Alzheimer’s has impacted them or chatting soccer are welcome to stop by the Orange County SC booth.
