Orange County SC split the points with The Miami FC in a goalless draw at FIU Stadium in Miami, FL on Saturday, May 27, 2023. It is the second goalless draw in just the second meeting between these two teams and the first time in over two years the Black and Orange did not surrender a shot on target.
The match got off to a rather chippy start, with two of Miami’s three center backs receiving yellow cards within the first twenty minutes of play.
Forward Korede Osundina had the first chance for the Black and Orange in the 22nd minute. He was on the receiving end of a Milan Iloski corner kick, but his header sailed over the bar.
In the 35th minute, Miami had a chance when the ball was played into forward Kyle Murphy at the top of the box. Defender Owen Lambe was alert to the danger and did not allow Murphy to turn and cleared the danger.
As the two sides entered the locker room, the first half generated more yellow cards than total shots. The Miami FC had two shots and saw three players booked and OCSC had both two shots and two bookings after 45’.
After the break, Osundina nearly caught Miami goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas off his line in the 55th minute, but Zendejas still managed to make the save near the top of the box. The rebound then fell to Milan Iloski who drew a foul and earned a free kick, but OCSC was unable to convert.
In the 61st minute, Orange County generated another dangerous opportunity when midfielder Brian Iloski whipped in a free kick that found substitute Brent Richards at the back post. Richards nodded the ball back in the middle, but unfortunately no black shirts were there to turn it home.
The Black and Orange had a golden opportunity in the 75th minute as midfielder Kyle Scott found substitute Bryce Jamison on the right side, who then played Richards through into the box. Richards then controlled the ball and played a square ball to Milan Iloski on the left side, but the ball took a nasty bounce off the turf and Iloski’s effort sailed high.
OCSC had a last-gasp effort in stoppage time with a free kick in the 95th minute. Richards was again found at the back post off the free kick, but his effort from a sharp angle was tipped away by Zendejas and the head official blew the final whistle.
