Orange County SC defeated San Diego Loyal SC 3-1 on Saturday, August 5 at Torero Stadium in San Diego, CA behind two second half goals from forward Thomas Amang in his return to San Diego, and one from substitute forward Korede Osundina in the final minute of stoppage time. It is OCSC’s fourth win in a row, and they have now won eight of their last ten.
The home team opened the scoring in the eighth minute as San Diego forward Adrian Perez found forward Evan Conway with a header and fired a shot with his left foot into the left corner of the net, putting San Diego ahead 1-0.
San Diego had another opportunity in the 14th minute as defender Grant Stoneman sent in a cross to midfielder Joe Corona, but his header towards the bottom right corner of the goal was saved by OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler.
OCSC had their first chance of the night in the 18th minute as midfielder Brian Iloski laid a pass off outside the box to midfielder Kevin Partida, but his right-footed strike went wide right of the goal.
San Diego Loyal countered in the 28th minute as Corona found a streaking Perez down the right side of the field. Perez gathered himself and fired a shot with his left foot from outside the box, but the ball sailed just left of the goal.
The OCSC defense was put to the test again in the 43rd minute as Corona found Perez in the right side of the box. Perez fired a left-footed shot that was saved by Shutler, his second save of the night, sending both teams into the half with San Diego maintaining a 1-0 lead.
Coming out of halftime, it was the Black and Orange who struck first in the 52nd minute. Forward Milan Iloski sent a ball over the top to his brother, midfielder Brian Iloski. Brian tapped it back to Amang, streaking into the box. Amang fired one home with his right foot off the post into the back of the net, tying the game for OCSC at 1-1.
San Diego substitute forward Enoch Mushagalusa attempted to counter for San Diego in the 63rd minute as his right-footed shot from the left side of the box missed wide right.
In the 78th minute, Partida put in a through ball to Milan Iloski that was deflected to the foot of Amang. Amang hit one touch with his right foot past the outstretched hands of San Diego goalkeeper Koke Vegas into the back of the net, giving OCSC a 2-1 lead.
The Black and Orange continued to apply pressure as Milan Iloski played a through ball to substitute forward Korede Osundina on a breakaway and the USYNT product made no mistake, scoring Orange County’s third and sealing all three points in a 3-1 win over SD Loyal.
OCSC has a bye week next week, but will return home to The Champ for two matches starting with Women’s World Cup Wednesday on Wednesday, August 16 at 7pm vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and our Beer Fest on Saturday, August 19 at 7pm vs. Charleston Battery FC. Grab your tickets here today!
