Orange County SC defeated the Charleston Battery 2-0 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday August 19th, at Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA. OCSC midfielder Brian Iloski scored his first goal of the season, and defender Owen Lambe tallied his second. This victory ties OCSC’s longest winning streak of 6 straight games, and also marks their 10th win in the past 12 games.
The Black and Orange had the better of the chances early on. In the sixth minute, midfielder Kyle Scott headed a ball from inside the left side of the box, but was saved by Charleston keeper Trey Muse.
Later in the 28th minute, forward Milan Iloski found his brother Brian, who attempted a left-footed shot from outside the box, but his shot sailed high and wide.
Charleston’s first real chance came in the 41st minute, when defender Derek Dodson found forward Roberto Avila. His left footed shot missed high to the left of the goal.
Orange County put themselves on the board first in first half stoppage time when Brian Iloski struck a free kick into the top right corner of the net. Iloski’s rocket put the Black and Orange ahead going into halftime.
OCSC came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, as their defense continued to apply pressure onto Charleston’s offense. Throughout the second half, Charleston only recorded 1 shot on goal, which came in the 46th minute, but was saved calmly by OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler.
Later in the 62nd minute, midfielder Kevin Partida found defender Owen Lambe in space on the left side. Lambe headed past a Charleston defender and struck a thunderous shot off the half volley past Muse, putting the Black and Orange up 2-0.
After Orange County’s second goal, Charleston didn’t come close to scoring again. They had a couple corner kicks, however they never amounted to anything that could have become a potential goal.
OCSC’s next two matches will be on the road on August 26th and September 2nd, where they will face Sacramento Republic FC and Las Vegas Lights FC. The Orange and Black return home to face El Paso Locomotive FC on September 9th at Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA, as a part of Heroes Night! Grab your tickets here today!
