
PHOENIX (November 1st, 2019) — Phoenix Rising FC’s 2019 season ended in the USL Western Conference Semifinals following a 2-1 loss to Real Monarchs SLC. It was the club’s first playoff loss at Casino Arizona Field.
Phoenix Rising forward Junior Flemmings opened the evenings scoring in the 25th minute. Teammate Solomon Asante passed the ball across midfield to Adam Jahn, who swiftly turned and sent a penetrating ball in behind the defense for the onrushing Flemmings. The forward dribbled the ball to the top of the box and let off a quick right-footed shot to beat the keeper and find the far left corner of the net to make it 1-0.
But Real Monarch’s Jack Blake equalized nearly ten minutes later in the 33rd minute, booming a blistering shot to find the back of the net. The Monarchs’ Maikel Chang hit the game-winner in the 43rd minute, dribbling around defenders at the top of the box before sliding his shot just inside the right post for a goal.
Phoenix Rising finishes 2019 with club and league records in wins (24), points (78) and goals (89) en route to a USL Regular Season Title. The team also set the American professional soccer record for most consecutive wins in a season (20).
Forward Solomon Asante finished the regular season as the USL Championship Golden Boot Winner with 22 goals and also led the league in assist with 16. Asante’s combined goals and assists (38) is also a league record.
Phoenix Rising also finished 2019 with its 22nd consecutive sellout at Casino Arizona Field (7,548 fans for the Conference Semifinals).
