
PHOENIX (August 10th, 2019) — Phoenix Rising FC kept re-writing the USL Championship record books following a 2-1 win over El Paso Locomotive FC in front of 6,520 fans (the club’s 14-straight sellout at Casino Arizona Field). Phoenix Rising midfielder José Aguinaga scored his first goal of 2019 and Solomon Asante netted the game-winner off a penalty kick to seal the club’s 13th-straight win of the season. It was also the team’s 14th straight home match without a loss.

Phoenix Rising broke through the scoreless deadlock in the 21st minute. Following a mad scramble in the box, the ball kicked out into space near the top of the box. Aguinaga got into the open space and with his first touch sent a grass-cutter inside the far right post to make it 1-0.
El Paso’s Edson Partido made it 1-1 just five minutes later and both clubs were barrelling toward a 1-1 halftime score. But before the end of the half, El Paso’s James Kiffe received a straight red card for an elbow to Solomon Asante’s face to put Locomotive FC down a man for the entire second half.
Rising FC had its chances in the second 45, but couldn’t find the back of the net during the run of play. But in the 72nd minute, forward Adam Jahn was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty kick. Asante stepped to the spot and calmly struck the ball into the far left corner of the net for the game-winning goal and his league-leading 16th goal.
Phoenix Rising continues its three-match homestand with a Bud Light $1 Beer Night on Friday, August 16.
