Phoenix Rising FC continues its four-game road trip through the Pacific Northwest when it leaves the country to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Sunday, September 24. The match will kick off at 3 p.m.
Fans can also watch the match one of three ways: they can watch live locally on YurView Arizona Cox Channels 4 & 1004 (Phoenix) or 7 & 1007 (Tucson). They can head to the club's official watch party at the Thirsty Lion in Tempe Marketplace. Or fans can watch online at www.www.phxrisingfc.com.
Rising FC will head to Canada on a roll, having won its last three matches and going unbeaten over its last nine overall. The club has never won four straight matches in USL play.
Phoenix Rising most recently overcame Seattle Sounders FC 2 in a 1-0 victory thanks to a 44th-minute goal from midfielder Alessandro Riggi. Goalkeeper Josh Cohen was in net for Rising FC to earn the shutout, clinching the club a fourth clean sheet in its last five matches.
The win also lifted Phoenix Rising to its highest place in the standings, fifth place, with 43 points. The team now trails fourth-place Swope Park Rangers by only five points for the final spot in the conference’s top four, and have a game in hand. The top four teams in each USL conference are guaranteed a home match in the first round of the playoffs.
Whitecaps FC 2 have been stuck at the other end of the table, as it enters Sunday’s contest second from the bottom in the Western Conference. The team has won just one of its last five matches, and lost at home to Orange County SC, 2-1, last week.
While the club has had trouble putting points on the board, forward Marco Bustos has had no issues finding the back of the net for Whitecaps FC 2. His eight goals lead the team, and are four better than anybody else on the roster. Phoenix Rising forward Jason Johnson also has eight goals, good enough to lead his club as well.
This year’s previous meeting between Phoenix Rising and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 was a big occasion for Rising FC, as it marked the debuts for forward Didier Drogba and head coach Patrice Carteron. Rising FC won that night 2-1, thanks to goals from Drogba and midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Rising FC leads its all-time series with Vancouver 3-2-0, but have never won a game played in Canada.
