
PHOENIX (August 3, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC enters the month of August near the top of the Western Conference standings and a trip on Sunday, August 5 to Providence Park to face Portland Timbers 2. The match kicks off at 12:00 p.m. and fans can watch locally on Yurview Arizona, Cox channels 4&1004 in Phoenix and 7&1007 in Tucson. They can also stream the match on ESPN+. The match will also be simulcast live on the radio on El Patron 93.7 FM (Spanish language) and Fox Sports 910 AM (English).
Phoenix Rising FC (11-5-5) will be looking to bounce back after suffering a defeat on the road at Real Monarchs SLC last week. Despite the loss, which was just the fifth of the season for PRFC, the club remains near the top of the standings in the Western Conference, currently sitting in third place with 38 points.
Rising FC’s 38 points through 21 matches is the most in club history to this point of a season. The team is also one of just three USL clubs to rank in the top 11 in both goals scored (36) and goals allowed (23). The team’s nine clean sheets (eight of which have been earned by Carl Woszczynski) is also tied for fifth-most in the USL. Forward Chris Cortez leads the team in scoring with nine goals, tied for ninth most in the league.
Portland Timbers 2 have rebounded this season after a last place finish in the Western Conference in 2017. At the moment, Portland is in the playoff picture, sitting in sixth place in the West with 33 points. Timbers 2 is led by forward Foster Langsdorf, who has scored 10 goals this season.
Sunday will be the first meeting between the two clubs this year and the eighth-ever matchup in the series all-time. While Portland leads the all-time series 4-2-1, Rising FC has won each of the past two meetings.
