Racing Louisville FC can consider itself a winner of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage.
Racing’s six international stars representing their countries combined to make 15 appearances, numbering eight goals and three assists — drawing praise from around the globe. The club’s combined goal total is tied with England’s Arsenal and trails only the nine scored by players from France’s Lyon for most of the tournament so far. Manchester City (7), Real Madrid (6) and Barcelona (6) are next on the list.
Racing is keeping such prestigious company thanks to some highlight moments. That includes Ary Borges’s hat trick in her World Cup debut for Brazil and a stoppage-time goal for Thembi Kgatlana that sent South Africa through to the knockout stage.
Alex Chidiac (Australia), Savannah DeMelo (United States) and Uchenna Kanu (Nigeria) have joined Kgatlana in moving on to knockout competition starting this weekend.
