Racing Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo received a call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team ahead of its two friendlies later this month, U.S. Soccer announced Tuesday.
DeMelo will depart for national team camp following Racing’s Friday night game against Houston, joining up with the squad for its Sept. 21 and 24 matches against South Africa in Cincinnati and Chicago, respectively.
The games will pit DeMelo against Racing teammate Thembi Kgatlana, the star forward for the South Africans who led Banyana Banyana to their first knockout stage appearance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Fans can watch the games on TNT and Universo and stream them via Peacock.
Tickets for the two games are on sale at USSoccer.com. The Cincinnati match will be played at TQL Stadium, while the Chicago game is set for Soldier Field.
The U.S. is entering a critical evaluation stage before the 2024 Olympics. DeMelo, who started twice for the Americans at the World Cup, became the first U.S. player since Shannon Boxx in 2003 to make a World Cup roster without any appearances for the national team.
