The 2024 NWSL Draft, presented by Ally, is finally here, the event that feels like the official kickoff of a new season.
In this year’s draft, set to be held in Anaheim, California, Racing has five picks across each of the four rounds, including the No. 6 overall spot, and is hoping to find another foundational piece to its team as it builds under first-year head coach Bev Yanez. The team is set to start preseason camp on Monday, Jan. 22.

What to know
There will be 56 picks in the draft with 14 selections in each of four rounds. Utah Royals FC has the first pick, followed by fellow expansion newcomer Bay FC. There does not seem to be a consensus around the likely top choice in this year’s draft, though several collegiate standouts are in the player pool, including Mac Hermann finalist Brecken Mozingo from BYU; USYNT standouts Croix Bethune, Maya Doms, Ally Sentnor and Reilyn Turner; and three members of national champion Florida State.
What Bev says …
“We have this really broad list to start. It becomes very narrow depending on what our roster looks like as (the draft) gets closer and (we determine) where we need to add depth. We very much feel like we have those buckets organized well enough to say, ‘It’s our (turn) — what are we doing with this pick and what is the direction of the club?’ We feel very organized. The draft is unpredictable, so it’s controlling what you can control, doing your research early and understanding the players coming in as a whole.” – Bev Yanez
