Racing Louisville Coach Bev Yanez will field a more veteran lineup Sunday when her squad kicks off against the Portland Thorns at 4 p.m. ET from Providence Park.
Yanez called for four changes, in the process moving three rookies to the bench as Racing Louisville looks to end a two-game losing skid.
Savannah DeMelo, who appeared as a substitute in last week’s game, reclaims a starting role for the first time since she exited a March 22 match early feeling lightheadedness. Racing’s all-time leading scorer will partner in the midfield with Taylor Flint as she returns from one game missed due to a foot injury.
DeMelo and Flint will line up beside Ary Borges, last week’s goal scorer in a defeat to the San Diego Wave.
Yanez’s other changes came at either end of the formation as forward Janine Sonis joins an attacking line also featuring Emma Sears and Kayla Fischer.
At the back, Courtney Petersen slots into the defensive line with Arin Wright, Ellie Jean and Lauren Milliet, from left to right. Sunday marks a milestone for Milliet — the only player to appear in 100 straight games for an NWSL club.
Katie Lund retains her spot in goal having recently passed 300 career saves.
Yanez’s rookies — Ella Hase, Katie O’Kane and Sarah Weber — are all still available off the bench Sunday. So too are a pair of high-impact players working their way back from injuries in Uchenna Kanu and Elli Pikkujämsa.
Racing’s game at Portland will stream on the free NWSL+ app or via plus.nwslsoccer.com as well as Paramount+. Fans can also listen to the match locally on Sports Talk 790AM.
