PITTSBURGH (May 22, 2020) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC fell to Phoenix Rising FC, 3-2, in the week three Division B championship match of the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition esports tournament this evening.
With defender Mark Lindstrom representing the Hounds, the game lived up to the bill early–a matchup between the top two teams in the division. Much like a heavyweight fight, the teams traded blows early. The Hounds got on the board in the 34th minute, after launching one into the top left corner. Phoenix, playing as the Netherlands National Team, would answer with a goal of their own in the 37th minute.
The Hounds would regain their lead in the 67th minute, after a beautiful pass left the goalkeeper out of position. But again, Phoenix would not back down. They scored an equalizer in the 71st minute, and would score the game-winning goal in the 79th minute, after banging a shot into the top-right corner. Phoenix outshot the Hounds, 7-4, but the Hounds had more shots on goal.
The Hounds will continue play in the tournament next week (date/opponent TBD). The Hounds won two games in Division B, and will be placed in Division A after this week’s promotions/relegations. Pittsburgh now sits tied for 13th of 32 teams in the standings.
All of Pittsburgh’s FIFA20 esports matches can be streamed live on the club’s Twitch channel.
