PITTSBURGH (March 22, 2022) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC defenders Mekeil Williams and Jesse Williams were selected to the Trinidad and Tobago National Team ahead of the Soca Warriors’ home matches in the upcoming international window.
Trinidad and Tobago will face Barbados on Friday, March 25 and Guyana on Tuesday, March 29, with both matches being played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain as part of the Courts Caribbean Classic. These matches are the primary tune-ups scheduled for T&T ahead of the start of the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League, which begins play this June.
For both players, it is a quick return to the T&T squad after taking part in their country’s most recent match, a friendly played in Bolivia on Jan. 21.
Mekeil Williams rates as one of the Trinidad squad’s most seasoned players with 32 appearances, including all three matches at last summer’s Gold Cup. He had the honor of captaining his country for the first time in the match two months ago in Sucre, Bolivia.
Jesse Williams has four senior international appearances for his country, including two at the Gold Cup, after the 20-year-old made his international debut June 8, 2021, in a World Cup qualifier against St. Kitts & Nevis.
The two players will miss the Hounds’ upcoming match this Saturday, March 26, at Detroit City FC but will be available for selection in the Hounds’ next home game on Saturday, April 2 against Loudoun United FC.
