PITTSBURGH (March 7, 2024) — Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC has signed another pair of young players to bolster their 2024 squad, adding midfielder Aidan O’Toole and goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta on one-year deals pending USL and U.S. Soccer approval.
O’Toole, 22, played a five-year college career at the University of Denver, where he appeared in a school record 87 matches. The Pioneers qualified for the NCAA Tournament all five years of his career and advanced to the Second Round in each of his final three seasons.
Hailing from The Hills, Texas, O’Toole was an All-Summit League selection the last three years of his career, including a First Team honor in 2021.
“Aidan has shown versatility in camp, is very coachable and grinds every day to get better,” Riverhounds head coach Bob Lilley said. “His quickness and tenacity will help make him a valuable asset for our team in 2024.”
Perrotta, 25, completed his college career last season as a graduate transfer at Marshall University, where he posted 11 shutouts and allowed just 17 goals in 21 games for a Thundering Herd team that reached the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16.
A native of Asunción, Paraguay, and a Paraguayan youth international at the U-17 and U-20 levels, Perrotta began his college career at UNC-Wilmington, where he was an All-Colonial Athletic Association First or Second Team selection in all four seasons. He posted 28 shutouts in four seasons for the Seahawks, and his .838 save percentage in 2022 was sixth in the NCAA.
“Gabby reads the game well and is a good communicator from the back,” Lilley said. “His goalkeeping attributes are solid across the board, and with continued development, he can grow into a very strong keeper in USL.”
The two signings bring the Hounds’ roster to 23 players to enter the regular season, which begins at 4 p.m. this Saturday, March 9, with a road match at New Mexico United. That game will be shown locally on KDKA+, streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast nationally on SiriusXM FC Channel 157.
