Rowdies Notes
The Tampa Bay Rowdies were held off the scoresheet for the first time in 2017 last weekend, slogging to a 0-0 draw on the road against the Ottawa Fury FC. The Rowdies had scored at least once in the first seven matches of the season.
While the offensive unit wasn’t necessarily in sync, the Rowdies’ defense remained in stellar form, keeping its fifth clean sheet in eight matches to start the season, a new Modern Era club record. Last season, the Rowdies needed 13 league matches to keep five clean sheets. The fifth clean sheet came on July 16 last year, compared to May 6 this season. Center back Damion Lowe was named to the USL Team of the Week for the second-consecutive week on Tuesday afternoon.
Rowdies forward Georgi Hristov tied Takuya Yamada for most appearances in Modern Era history on Saturday afternoon, playing his 120th official match for the Rowdies. He can surpass Yamada if he appears in this match.
Hristov is also the Rowdies’ Modern Era scoring leader with 41 goals, including a team-high four this season.
Rowdies captain Joe Cole missed last weekend’s match with a slight hamstring problem picked up during pregame warmups, but Cole is expected back this weekend.
Scouting Louisville
Louisville City FC is the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference, having won three games and drawn three games so far this season. Louisville had last weekend off to prepare for this match.
Two of Louisville’s three wins have come away from home this year, with James O’Connor’s team beating Orlando City B 3-1 on March 30 and the Richmond Kickers 1-0 on April 8 away from home.
Tampa Bay was handed its first defeat of 2017 by Louisville City on April 15, when George Davis IV and Cameron Lancaster scored the goals in a 2-1 win for Louisville. Rowdies forward Martin Paterson halved Tampa Bay’s deficit just before stoppage time, but the Rowdies ran out of time to level the match.
Davis IV leads Louisville in scoring this season with three goals.
