Rowdies Notes
The Tampa Bay Rowdies remain home for the final match of a three-game homestand and will try to extend their unbeaten run to six games. The Rowdies sit in second place in the Eastern Conference after last weekend’s 4-0 win over the Hartford Athletic. They are two points behind Saint Louis FC.
After scoring four total goals in the first four matches of the season, Tampa Bay exploded for four goals last weekend, doubling its season total over the course of the 90 minutes. Sebastian Guenzatti opened and closed the scoring, bookending goals from David Najem and Andrew Tinari in the win.
Against Hartford last week, Tampa Bay’s attack put up season highs in goals (4), shots (21), shots on target (10), passes completed (492), pass accuracy (83.5 percent) and possession (64 percent.)
For his efforts against Hartford, Guenzatti was named to the Championship Team of the Week for the first time Tuesday. Joining him in the XI was Leo Fernandes, who tallied his first two assists of the year against Hartford. David Najem was on the bench.
Najem scored 63 seconds after stepping onto the field in what was his first competitive appearance in 51 weeks since tearing his left ACL on April 14, 2018.
Rowdies goalkeeper John McCarthy leads the Championship with four clean sheets in five matches since signing with the Rowdies. He kept a season-high five saves last weekend. Tampa Bay has conceded only one goal so far this season.
This is the third consecutive season the Rowdies have kept clean sheets in each of their first three home matches. The current Modern Era record for most minutes without conceding a goal at home to open a season is 310, meaning if the Rowdies make it to the 41st minute of this match without conceding, it will set a new record.
April has been a good month for the Rowdies since joining the USL Championship prior to the 2017 season. In six April home games, Tampa Bay is 6-0-0 with 17 goals scored and zero goals against.
