“Fan and community input are essential to our club ranging from the creation of our brand to the atmosphere at our matches,” said President Warren Smith. “Listening and engaging fans, and the neighborhoods surrounding soccer stadiums, goes back to the origins of the sport and is woven in the fabric of it today. This vital feedback from the community will not only assist us in the design of the stadium but also garner ideas on how it will serve as a catalyst towards our goal of making Sacramento as a better place to work, live and play.”
Multiple opportunities are being created over the course of several months to garner input, ideas and feedback from fans, organizations and the public as a whole. The initial phase will focus on gathering public input on design and architectural features of the stadium. Two of these key elements are an online survey and series of public workshops.
Online Survey – The public is encouraged to complete a brief online survey designed to gather input on key stadium design concepts and choices. The survey will be available online through August 20, 2015 at https://sportsengine-staging.go-vip.net/sacrepublicfc/stadium-survey.
Small Group Workshops – Republic FC will also randomly select a subset of interested survey respondents to participate in small group workshops with Republic FC and the stadium design team. These focus groups will gather in-depth feedback on specific design considerations including input received from the survey. Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign-up by taking the online survey. Workshops will begin next week.
In subsequent phases of public engagement, Republic FC and the stadium project team will seek feedback on other components of the stadium development, including event programming, food and beverage selections, retail spaces and more. In the coming weeks, the club will also launch digital platforms for fans to share ideas, photos and feedback as well as partner with PORTAL.
Today’s news represents the latest in an ongoing series of progress updates on ‘Operation Turnkey,’ an initiative launched by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Republic FC Managing Partner Kevin Nagle in March 2015 to strengthen Sacramento’s bid for a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team. Plans for a new, privately financed stadium are on track, pending Sacramento securing MLS-rights, with the facility ready to open as soon as the 2018 MLS season.
The stadium project team is currently in beginning stages of the conceptual design phase of stadium development. A full concept design for the new facility will be completed later this year.
