Iwasa scored the goal in the opening seconds of the match, unleashing a left-footed rocket from 25 yards out. The shot caught the Toros keeper Callum Irving off guard as Iwasa’s shot struck the inside of the right post and into the back of the net.
Scored in the 38th second, Iwasa’s goal is fastest goal scored in Republic FC history beating Thomas Stewart’s 2nd minute strike against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Aug. 14, 2015.
Iwasa’s goal was his fourth of the 2016 USL season. Combined with a second goal and an assist, Iwasa went on to win USL Player of the Week for his performance against the Toros. Currently, Iwasa is one of ten players to score a goal for Republic FC this season. He also leads the team with give goals.
