SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 11, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with forward Matt Wiesenfarth for the remainder of the club’s 2017 season.
“We are delighted to bring Matt on board for the final part of the season,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He is someone that we brought in on a trial basis and has consistently improved each time out on the training pitch. He is hard-working, honest and has a knack for finding the back of the net. We look forward to seeing more from him.”
Wiesenfarth joins Republic FC following a standout season with Burlingame Dragons FC (PDL) in 2017. Wiesenfarth, a former UC Davis Aggie, scored 13 goals in just 11 appearances and in just 27 shots; a 48 percent shot conversion rate and an average of 1.18 goals per game. The forward was named honorable mention on the 2017 PDL All-Western Conference Team.
Wiesenfarth was successful in his five seasons at UC Davis, scoring 17 goals and adding eight assists in 86 career appearances. The forward was named the Big West Conference Freshman of the year, as well as recognized with honors on the College Soccer News Freshman All-America Second Team and the All-Big West Second Team three times. He is a Jesuit High School graduate, scoring 110 goals in four seasons. Wiesenfarth will rejoin defender Elliott Hord, who he played with at UC Davis from 2011-13. His ties to Republic FC date back to his appearance on the Sacramento Future Star team featured at Sacramento Soccer Day on Jul. 18, 2013 when Republic FC unveiled its crest and name to the community.
Wiesenfarth has joined the club and will be available for selection in Republic FC’s match versus Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday, Aug. 13. Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Providence Park. The match will be broadcast on CW31 and streamed live at www.sacrepublicfc.com/matchday-guide.
