SACRAMENTO, Calif. (September 1, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have completed arrangements to receive midfielder Villyan Bijev on loan from Portland Timbers 2.
Bijev joins Republic FC after playing the last two seasons with Timbers 2. The midfielder has recorded 15 goals and 10 assists in 52 matches with T2, leading the USL in assists in 2016. Bijev has led T2 in goals in each of the last two seasons, after joining the club from Bulgarian side Cherno More.
A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Bijev moved to Fresno as a child, playing for Cal Odyssey in the U.S. Development Academy. The midfielder has capped with both the U.S. U-18 and U-20 National Teams, as well as with the Bulgaria U-21 National Team.
Bijev will be available for selection in Republic FC’s match on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park. Tickets are available at www.sacrepublicfc.com.
