What’s the latest on the team?
Republic FC (3-2-2, 11 pts) enter Saturday’s contest after being held to a goalless draw at home against Phoenix Rising FC. Despite being unable to get on the scoreboard, Sacramento will take positives from their defensive display, shutting down a high-powered Phoenix side that was coming off a 4-0 win in their previous match. Key to keeping Rising FC at bay was the performance of goalkeeper Josh Cohen. The second-year Republic FC player made two acrobatic saves in the first half to ensure his side remain undefeated at home this season.
Defender “Haris” Chantzopoulos is available against Lights FC after serving a one-game suspension, but midfielder Villyan Bijev is questionable after missing the club's last match with a hamstring injury.

How about the other guys?
Las Vegas Lights FC (2-4-2 8 pts) are also coming off a scoreless draw heading into Saturday's match. The Nevadan side drew 0-0 on Monday night against LA Galaxy II and haven’t picked up points since a 5-0 demolition of Tacoma Defiance on April 13. Despite that, Lights FC is currently undefeated at home this season.
Sacramento fans might notice familiar faces on Saturday’s broadcast, as Lights FC count on the services of former Republic FC player Sammy Ochoa. The Mexican forward led the club in goals and assists during his lone season in Sacramento in 2017. On the other end of the field, Lights FC goalkeeper Thomas Olsen spent a brief period of time on loan with Republic FC toward the end of last season.
Lights FC is in their first season under the guidance of Head Coach Eric Wynalda, a former U.S. Men’s National Team player and soccer analyst for Fox Sports 1.
Head-to-Head
Saturday’s match will be just the third-ever encounter between Sacramento and Las Vegas. Republic FC are currently undefeated against their Sin City rivals. The two sides drew 1-1 in their first-ever encounter, which preceded a 1-0 Sacramento win to close out the 2018 series.
- Overall: 1W-0L-1D
- Home: 1-0-0
- Away: 0-0-1
