Eyes up!
Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu brings tremendous field awareness with him to the field. Whether he’s a central midfielder on the ball surveying the pitch for the right pass, or he’s anticipating a counterattack while he’s playing the back line. The Harvard grad is an extremely intelligent player who is fully aware of his surroundings at all times.

Can’t question his toughness.
Here, Wheeler-Omiunu is on the receiving end of a studs-up tackle and the physical player still fearlessly went for the ball in hopes of gaining possession for his side. He’s a team player who is clearly willing to sacrifice his body for the greater good of the club.

Praised for his precision passing.
Wheeler-Omiunu has been scouted as a player with a tremendous touch and exception passing range. His passing accuracy is stellar as well, as the former Phoenix Rising FC defender/midfielder finished fourth on the entire team in passing percentage (87.5%). During his time with FC Tucson, the 25-year-old finished the season with a passing accuracy in his own half of 88.5%.

Dominating defender.
The former MLS Cup champion has no problem doing the less glamorous dirty work for his team. With FC Tucson last year, Wheeler-Omiunu finished second on the entire team in tackles (46), duels (240), duels won (130) and interceptions (30). He also finished 2019 with a tackle success rate of 85%.

Indomitable strength.
Sometimes it takes two to slow down Republic FC’s newest signing. Wheeler-Omiunu has loads of experience as a defensive midfielder or on the back line, but that doesn’t mean the former Atlanta United player doesn’t enjoy working his way upfield. He’s even found the back on a few occasions and last year he was honored with a League One Goal of the Week award. His Week 15 wondergoal was a perfect example of the brute strength he has at his disposal.

Aerial assault.
Harvard head coach Pieter Lehrer described Wheeler-Omiunu as “a great defender and a fantastic, complete player.” He has speed, strength, poise and according to this picture, the guy’s got ups too.
