San Antonio FC has signed forward Aly Alberto Hassan for the upcoming USL season pending federation approval, the club announced today. Hassan earned a permanent spot on the roster after a successful trial during the 2017 preseason.
Hassan joins SAFC after spending the 2016 season with the Carolina RailHawks (NASL) and Charlotte Independence (USL). Hassan scored one goal in 10 games (165 minutes) with the RailHawks before being loaned to the Independence. With Charlotte, Hassan finished the season scoring one goal and recording two assists in 10 appearances before adding a goal in the Independence’s first-round playoff match against the Rochester Rhinos.
“We’re excited to have Aly join us,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He’s a striker who we feel will score goals. His strength is in front of goal and he can convert chances. He impressed us throughout the preseason and has worked hard throughout his time here in San Antonio. We’re looking forward to working with him on a full-time basis over the course of 2017.”
Prior to his time in North Carolina, Hassan was an established player with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) from 2012-15 where he scored nine goals in 50 total games (1,972 minutes). Hassan also spent time on loan with Club Aurora in Bolivia in 2013 and played 12 matches for Ottawa Fury FC, scoring three goals after joining them midway through the 2015 NASL season. The 27-year-old attended Nova Southeastern University where he played soccer from 2007-10, while also playing with USL PDL club the Central Florida Kraze.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining the organization,” said Hassan. “This is a great place to play with an amazing group of players and coaches. I can’t wait to get the season started and play in front of these passionate fans.”
With the signing of Hassan, the current SAFC roster stands at 23.
San Antonio FC is currently prepping for its second season in the USL, which is scheduled to kick off on March 26 at RGV FC before the club returns to Toyota Field for its home opener on April 1 vs. LA Galaxy II at 7:30 p.m. Fans interested in tickets can contact the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5MLS or visit www.sanantoniofc.com.
