San Antonio FC and Orlando City B (USL) played to a 0-0 draw in a preseason match on Saturday. The game was the final match for SAFC during their preseason trip to Melbourne, FL. SAFC defeated Minnesota United FC (MLS) 2-0 in a friendly match last week to start their trip.
“We are very pleased with the clean sheet,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. We’ve kept two clean sheets in two preseason games while in Florida so we are proud of how the guys defended. We continue to be a work in progress going forward and we got in some good areas today. We just need to execute better, but I thought today was a very good competitive game to have in preseason.”
The first half saw a number of chances for San Antonio FC, however the club couldn’t find a way to convert for the opening goal. Thanks to a solid defensive performance in the first 45 minutes, San Antonio goalkeeper Matt Cardone wasn’t forced into a save.
The second half saw chances created by both teams and Cardone made a number key saves to keep the score level. SAFC forward Cesar Elizondo and midfielder Billy Forbes both created a number of second half opportunities, but the club was unable to capitalize. Orlando City B came close to stealing the victory late, but their free-kick instead cannoned off the crossbar.
San Antonio FC have concluded its week-long stay in Melbourne and will return to San Antonio to wrap up preseason. SAFC will face USL side Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday March 11 at Toyota Field.
