
San Antonio FC has enjoyed a very successful season so far in 2017, sitting in second place in the Western Conference standings with 45 points. As the playoff race reaches its final stretch, let’s take a look at some statistical leaders and milestones for the club this season.
0- San Antonio FC has suffered zero losses at home this season, recording their only two losses of the campaign on the road at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and Reno 1868 FC. On September 10, SAFC will have officially gone a full calendar year without recording a loss at home. The club will then have four matches remaining at Toyota Field in the regular season.
1- Defender Sebastien Ibeagha currently leads the team with an impressive 146 clearances, recording 55 more than the next highest on the team, which is Stephen McCarthy with 91. In addition, Ibeagha is the first player to hit the 2,000 minute mark for the club, featuring in every minute of USL play for the club so far.
3- Defender Greg Cochrane has now recorded three assists on the season, which is tied for second-most on the team and the most for a defender. The tally also matches Cochrane’s 2016 assist count.
5- Midfielder Billy Forbes currently leads the club in five different attacking categories. Forbes leads the team this season in goals scored (seven), assists (five), shots (42), shots on target (17), and chances created (27).
6- After recording his sixth goal of the season on Wednesday, midfielder Kris Tyrpak is just one goal short of matching his 2016 tally and also tying Billy Forbes for the season lead. Earlier this season, Tyrpak recorded the fastest goal in club history after heading in a goal at the 1:34 mark on August 5 vs Orange County SC.
9- Midfielder Rafa Castillo continues to lead the club’s all-time scoring chart with nine goals. Castillo tallied five goals in the Silver and Black’s inaugural season, and has scored four so far in 2017, three of which have come from the penalty spot.
10- Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded his 10th clean sheet of the season on August 23. Restrepo now leads the USL in shutouts, and San Antonio FC leads the league in the same category with 13 overall. In addition, the team has conceded the fewest goals in the league this season (13).
