San Antonio FC (3-2-4) tied RGV FC (1-3-5) 0-0 at H-E-B Park on Saturday night in the first South Texas Derby of 2018. A standout performance from goalkeeper Diego Restrepo helped the team earn its third clean sheet of the season.
“I’m really proud of the players for keeping the clean sheet and earning the point,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “The game became very stop-start for whatever reason, so it made it difficult to get into our flow. But all in all we got a point and a clean sheet on the road and now we just need to prepare ourselves for Midland on Wednesday.”
SAFC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo earned SWBC Man of the Match honors for the second consecutive match after posting five saves on the night. The Venezuela native recorded his third clean sheet of the 2018 campaign and 15th overall for the club.
The draw extends the Alamo City club’s unbeaten streak to four matches since earning a 0-0 draw at Fresno FC on April 22. SAFC is now 2-4-2 all-time against RGV FC, losing only one time in their previous four encounters.
SAFC Midfielder Sonny Guadarrama recorded a season-high three chances created, as well as a season-high passing accuracy of 80 percent in 81 minutes of play. Guadarrama has featured in 526 minutes for the club since joining prior to the 2018 season.
SAFC forward Kyle Murphy made his club debut on the night, facing his former club and featuring in five minutes of play after joining SAFC on Thursday.
San Antonio FC will return to action as the club begins its Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run on Wednesday, May 16 at Midland-Odessa Sockers FC. The club will then return to USL action on Saturday, May 19 as the team hosts Tulsa Roughnecks FC during Military Appreciation Night at Toyota Field.
