Colorado Springs, CO (May 4, 2019) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC were defeated 2-0 by El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday night in front of 3,883 fans at Weidner Field.
Coming off of the bye weekend, the Switchbacks were looking to get back on track in their first ever meeting against league newcomers El Paso Locomotive FC. The Switchbacks had a couple of opportunities in the first half but were unable to convert as the sides went into the break deadlocked at zeroes. El Paso came out of the gate strong when Jerome Kiesewetter slotted his shot in the near post just 23 seconds into the second half. El Paso doubled their lead ten minutes later when Kiesewetter scored his second of the game by getting behind the Switchbacks' backline and calmly finishing past Clint Irwin to finish off the game for the visitors.
"We're frustrated in the overall performance. First half we don't think it was terrible. I think there are definitely things we could've done a little bit better. But going in nil-nil at half and having some chances, we should've been a little bit more positive," said Switchbacks midfielder, Jordan Schweitzer. "I think overall, 'frustration' is a really good word to sum up today."
The Switchbacks are back on the road to face the Las Vegas Lights FC on May 11th. The Switchbacks return to Weidner Field on Wednesday, May 15th to face either FC Denver or Midland-Odessa Sockers FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The next home league game for the Switchbacks is on Saturday, May 18th when New Mexico United comes to town on vuvuzela giveaway night to the first 500 fans in attendance, courtesy of General Dynamics. Full 16oz beers will be available for $1 for the first 30 minutes after gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets start at just $12 and are available HERE. For the price of a Switchbacks ticket and 2-5 beers, it is cheaper than buying 2-5 beers at a bar or restaurant.

Steve Trittschuh – On his overall thoughts on the game: "The first half was decent, we had some good moments. It's inexcusable to come out in the first minute of the second half and give up a goal like that, and then we're playing catch up. We have good moments, but we have too many bad moments right now. We have to look at what we're doing here, it comes down to me. It's all my fault. The players are giving a good effort. But we have to start getting results, so we have to look at it and see if we have to change personnel."
Jordan Schweitzer – On his overall thoughts on the game: "We're frustrated in the overall performance. First half we don't think it was terrible. One goal, obviously from myself, it's a poor ball in the midfield to turn it over. And then we gave up the first goal early in the first half which really put us on the back foot. And from there, we're trying to chase a little bit, changing formation which opens us up a little bit for the second goal as well. I think overall, 'frustration' is a really good word to sum up today."
Jordan Burt – On his overall thoughts on the game: "I'm very disappointed. We've dropped three games at home which is very uncharacteristic of our team. And for me, I just have to take ownership over what happens and move forward and try to learn from it."
What could the team have improved on to get a better result: "We had moments where we were really good and we had moments where we were really bad. Soccer is a funny game and sometimes things don't go your way. We have to go back to the drawing board and move forward."
