This past week, Switchbacks defender, Josh Phillips, treated an autistic Switchbacks fan to a fun-filled day of fishing. JT Smith, a season ticket member since the Switchbacks inaugural 2015 season, was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Josh reached out to JT, who loves the outdoors and the Switchbacks, to spend the day with him fishing. The two spent the day fishing and both of them had an incredible time together.
“I had a blast!” Said JT of his time with Josh. “It was so much fun to go into the mountains and hang out with Josh.” JT is a dedicated Switchbacks fan and a member of the Trailheads Supporters Group where he stands in basecamp for every home match.
“The time I spent hanging out with JT was some of the most rewarding time I’ve ever spent on the water,” said Josh of the experience. “I’m really thankful for the Switchbacks setting up a player hangout like this. I can’t wait to see JT at the game and hope to see him catching more big fish soon!”
JT’s father, Jason Smith, was very grateful for the experience as well. “The Switchbacks and Trailheads are a big part of JT’s life and his connection with the community,” said Jason of his son’s experience. “For Josh to take time out of his week to spend a day with JT is incredibly awesome. It was a day that JT will never forget. Thanks to the Switchbacks and especially Josh for making this happen.”
The Switchbacks return home Saturday night to take on Seattle Sounders FC 2 at 6:00 P.M. at Weidner Field. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive the second piece of the poster series puzzle courtesy of Weidner Apartment Homes. Tickets start at just $12 and can be purchased here.
