On April 28th, The Homes for Heroes hosted the first annual “Homes for Heroes Community Cares Event” at Weidner Field. This event provided supplies and medical care needed for 23 local K-9 officers in Colorado Springs, Fountain, and Woodland Park PDs, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The event also included a Pet-Friendly 5K walk/run, K9 Dog demonstrations from local K9 officers and trained dogs from Ray Allen Manufacturing, numerous local vendor booths, great food from 2 local food trucks, Uriel Macias of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, silent auctions, multiple raffles, fire trucks, ambulances, and a kid’s zone with coloring contests for prizes. Rachel Flick was also in attendance for a $5,000 grant check presentation from the EPSO Foundation in honor of the Fallen Sheriff Deputy, Micah Flick.
