Tormenta FC Suffers First Loss to Chattanooga Red Wolves 3-2
Club Gained Momentum in the Second Half with Two Late Goals
Sitting in first in the USL League One standings, Tormenta FC felt a sense of urgency going into its fifth game of the season with three teams trailing behind, too close for comfort. Despite the gravity of this match, Tormenta FC suffered its first loss tonight to Chattanooga Red Wolves with a final score of 3-2.
“Congratulations to Chattanooga on the win,” Tormenta FC head coach John Miglarese said. “We played very poorly in the first twenty minutes but were superb in the second half. It’s a tough result to swallow, but we will learn from it and move on.”
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC dominated the first half, scoring three unfortunate goals within the first seventeen minutes. Chattanooga’s Steven Beattie scored a brace with goals in the 8th and 17th minutes, and Éamon Zayed scored in the 11th.
Although the club gave up three goals, Tormenta FC still kept the majority of possession throughout the game and had several chances that fell through, particularly a perfect opportunity for Dalton Pando in the 70th.
In the second half, Tormenta FC took the front seat, attacking harder and with more purpose. The club’s efforts were not in vain as Conner Antley scored Tormenta’s first goal of the night in the 74th, straight to the bottom left corner, assisted by Marco Micaletto. Christopher Hellmann continued that energy and picked up Tormenta’s second goal, assisted by Lucas Coutinho. With the score 3-2, Tormenta pushed harder than ever to bring the match to a draw and grab one point but didn’t have enough time to follow through.
Although Tormenta FC suffered its first loss of the season, the club remains on top of the standings for now, due to Greenville Triumph’s fall to the Richmond Kickers tonight 1-0.
Tormenta FC will now focus on its match this Friday, April 26 against FC Tucson. The club’s next home game in Erk Russell Park will be Round 1 of the US Open Cup on May 7: Tormenta 2 vs. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
