Tormenta FC 2 midfielder, Luca Mayr, has signed his first professional contract with the club’s USL League One side, pending league and federation approval. In 2019, Mayr helped Tormenta 2 win both Deep South Division and Southern Conference titles with eight goals and five assists in 16 games played.
“Luca is a top midfield player who has mobility, a knack for goals and an endless work rate,” Head Coach John Miglarese said. “He played exceptionally well over the summer with Tormenta 2, and it firmly convinced our staff that he was someone we wanted to sign. It is exciting to see our pro pathway via our Academy and USL League Two continue to service our first team.”
The Austrian midfielder graduated in 2019 from the University of South Carolina. In his college career, Mayr scored 15 goals and notched 15 assists with 173 shots total. Before university, he played for both the U16 and U18 Austrian National Teams, along with SV Reid in the Austrian Football Bundesliga.
“I am really grateful and excited to play professionally for Tormenta FC this upcoming season,” Mayr said. “I had a great summer with the USL League Two team. I then had surgery and missed the first couple of games of my senior year, so I’m even happier that I’m getting a chance at the next level.”
Mayr joins Tormenta FC’s growing 2020 roster that includes goalkeeper Pablo Jara; defenders Lars Eckenrode, Mike O’Sullivan, Josh Phelps and Jordan Skelton; midfielders Jad Arslan, Lucas Coutinho, Ricardo Gomez, Marco Micaletto, Abuchi Obinwa and Nil Vinyals; and forwards Pato Botello Faz and Mikie Rowe.
