STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2 has announced Gabriel Alves to its 2022 USL League Two roster, pending league and federation approval. Alves joins the squad under Head Coach Tom Morris as he aspires for a fourth USL League Two title run.
A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Alves played in 18 games for Marshall University for the 2020/21 season, starting 17 times, and he finished the season with one goal and one assist. Alves was a major contributor on the outside of the back line in the Herd’s National Championship-winning season.
“Gabriel is a very talented left-back who played a pivotal role in helping Marshall University win its first national championship” TFC 2 Head Coach Tom Morris said. “After watching Marshall play over the last 12 months, it became very apparent that Gabriel is a player with all the tools to have a successful career in the game, and we are pleased to have him with us this summer.
“His quality on the ball, defensive tenacity, and ability to play multiple positions all make him a really fun and exciting player to work with, and we think our fans will enjoy seeing him play too.”

Alves brings experience and leadership to the Tormenta FC 2 backline. Although Alves is a rising junior, he has played every match since arriving at Marshall and knows what it’s like to be an underdog. Back-to-back appearances in the Conference USA Tournament and NCAA Tournament have helped him mature and want to continue his winning ways at Statesboro this summer.
“I chose Tormenta FC 2 because of the winning mindset,” Alves commented. “I love how the staff wants to develop us on the field, and they also help us to grow into the best version of ourselves off the field. I also want to experience the state of Georgia and the amazing fan base that Tormenta has to offer.”
Supporters can expect additional USL League One, League Two and W League player announcements to be released in the coming weeks.
Tormenta FC looks forward to opening its new 5,300-seat stadium in Statesboro during the 2022 season, which will serve as home to the club’s USL League One, League Two and W League squads, as well as Georgia Southern University Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I soccer teams.
