STATESBORO, Ga. — Tormenta FC’s USL Academy Boys team officially debuted in the 2023 USL Academy summer season in today’s 3-2 loss to East Atlanta FC from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. Two first-half goals by Renzo Andreucetti and Dodge Brooks were not enough to obtain a win despite great play.
There’s obvious frustration with the result, but for the most part we are really proud of the team tonight. We came in with a specific game plan, and I thought the boys executed that really well. We consistently arrived in dangerous areas, and unfortunately didn’t take our chances.
Jordan Melia, Tormenta FC USL Academy Head Coach
The first half kicked off with an immediate breakthrough as Andreucetti swiftly capitalized on a well-placed pass by Simon Greer in the penalty area. Andreucetti guided the ball to the opposite side of the goalkeeper, opening the goal tally for the home team.
Despite getting an early lead, East Atlanta quickly retaliated, scoring two goals within a span of 10 minutes.
Tormenta FC’s Dodge Brooks would get the equalizer after observing the opposing goalkeeper out of position. Brooks launched a shot from well outside the box, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Full credit to East Atlanta who also created some dangerous opportunities, I thought their second goal was really well worked. A lot to digest and not the result we wanted, but overall we are proud of the the way boys played.
Jordan Melia, Tormenta FC USL Academy Head Coach
With both teams displaying unwavering intensity on a hot and humid afternoon, the game concluded favoring the Atlanta side after a second-half goal from the visiting side.
