Two U.S. Olympians To Be Inducted in Pac-12 Hall of Honor as Part of First-Ever All-Female Class

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – U.S. Olympians and former Team USA standouts Janie Reed (University of Oregon) and Jessica Mendoza (Stanford University) are set to be inducted into the Class of 2023 Pac-12 Hall of Honor, the Pac-12 announced earlier today. Recognized as the Conference’s most prestigious honor of on-field and off-field contributors to Pac-12 athletics, the 2023 class makes its mark in history as the first-ever all-female class to be inducted into the Hall of Honor in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX. Reed and Mendoza will be inducted on Friday, March 3 during the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.

A three-time All-Pac-12 first-team honoree – the first in Oregon softball history – and three-time All-American for the University of Oregon, Reed helped lead the Ducks to three-straight Pac-12 titles (2013-2015) as well as three NCAA Women’s College World Series appearances (2012, 2014, 2015) while etching her name atop the Oregon Softball leaderboard as the all-time leader in stolen bases (102), runs (204), hits (309) and at-bats (788). Reed repped the Red, White and Blue for seven years, picking up two World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championship gold medals (2016, 2018), two Pan American Games gold medals (2017, 2019) and a long-awaited Olympic medal victory where the Oregon alum and Team USA earned silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games – a feat that recognized Reed as the first Duck to win an Olympic medal in softball.

Mendoza joins the Pac-12 Hall of Honor ranks as one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the sport, garnering various accolades at the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels. Leading the Stanford softball program to its first NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance (2001), Mendoza tallies four first-team NFCA All-American honors, four first-team All-Conference honors and four All-Region honors (1999-2002) in addition to being named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year (1999) and Pac-10 Player of the Year (2000). Mendoza’s success continued throughout her international career, earning two Pan American Games gold medals (2003, 2007), three WBSC World Championship gold medals (2002, 2006, 2010) and two Olympic medals (2004 – gold, 2008 – silver). Dubbed “The Real Dream Team” at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Mendoza and the rest of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Softball Team were considered the best women’s softball team ever assembled and possibly the most dominant Olympic team in any sport. In addition to Mendoza’s induction into the Pac-12 Hall of Honor, she is also recognized as a member of the Stanford Hall of Fame (2012) and National Softball Hall of Fame (2019).
