OKLAHOMA CITY – The USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex will open its 2023 schedule of events on Friday, March 3, as the Langston Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic returns to the Softball Capital of the World® for an action-packed two day round robin event. Hosted by Langston University, the tournament will feature 15 collegiate programs, including four historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) and six schools from the state of Oklahoma.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with USA Softball in hosting this tournament at the premier softball facility in the United States,” said Langston University Director of Athletics, Donnita Rogers. “It has always been our dream to encourage youth minority girls of all ages to play softball. This classic was the brainchild of our former head softball coach, Hosea Bell, over seven years ago and we look forward to continuing his legacy by hosting this tournament every year.”
Play will begin on Friday, March 3, with three games scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. as Mid-America Christian University faces McPherson, Langston meets Benedictine and Saint Mary’s of the Woods squares off against Ottawa. Each day will feature a total of 15 games played across three fields including the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium – OGE Energy Field. In addition to the 15 games being played on Saturday, March 4, USA Softball has partnered with Major League Baseball (MLB) to host a free PlayBall event for children ages 6-12. The event will be held on Field 2 of the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT. Participants will have the opportunity to experience a free introductory softball event, including basic skill drills and knowledge of the game. To register for the PlayBall event, click here.
