Oakland Roots and the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) set up the 2021 Oakland Roots Team photo shoot on the grounds of the museum, using the newly renovated gardens for a series of dramatic backdrops. Oakland Roots has long been inspired by the community work of OMCA and wanted to highlight the Museum in an artistic way that matched the essence of the community gathering place.

“We love how OMCA uses the arts to create a safe and welcoming place for people to come together and celebrate creativity and diversity, because we’re inspired to do the same thing,” said Mike Geddes, Chief Purpose Officer at Oakland Roots. “We look forward to exploring more ways we can work with the Museum to bring Oakland together.”

With home games being played just up the street, at Laney College, it was the perfect setting for Roots to harness one of the great pillars of Oakland in the OMCA.
“It was a pleasure for OMCA to host Oakland Roots for their team photoshoot in our newly renovated gardens,” said Lindsay Wright, Associate Director, Communications at OMCA. “We were so glad that the two organizations could take part in this fun collaboration together.”
