“We love how OMCA uses the arts to create a safe and welcoming place for people to come together and celebrate creativity and diversity, because we’re inspired to do the same thing,” said Mike Geddes, Chief Purpose Officer at Oakland Roots. “We look forward to exploring more ways we can work with the Museum to bring Oakland together.”

“It was a pleasure for OMCA to host Oakland Roots for their team photoshoot in our newly renovated gardens,” said Lindsay Wright, Associate Director, Communications at OMCA. “We were so glad that the two organizations could take part in this fun collaboration together.”

When the Oakland Museum of California first opened its doors fifty years ago in 1969, it brought together three historically independent disciplines—art, history, and natural sciences—under one roof. OMCA nurtures its deep ties to the community by offering many educational and outreach programs.
