Oakland Roots Sports Club will travel away to South Carolina to face Greenville Triumph SC in the 2nd Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This matchup will take place on April 7th and will air on ESPN+. This will be Oakland Roots’ first run in the over 100-year-old tournament after being drawn to face USL Championship side Sacramento Republic in 2020, before the cancellation of the tournament due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Greenville Triumph SC is a member of USL League One, the third tier of USSF below the USL Championship. Greenville has reached the USL League One Final in both the 2020 and 2021 season, winning the championship in 2020 due to COVID-19 cancellation. Greenville was awarded the title based on their season points per game average. The team is coached by former USMNT team player John Harkes.
