Oakland Roots Sports Club has added Baboucarr Njie to the squad from Phoenix Rising FC. Njie is a versatile player who can play as a defender, midfielder, or winger. Oakland is sending Darek Formella to Phoenix in a corresponding transfer.
“We have been tracking Njie for some time now as someone who we believe fits with our idea of football,” said Oakland Roots Technical Director, Jordan Ferrell. “We are excited to get him into the mix and wish Darek Formella all the best as a player and person who represented our club well over the last two seasons.”
Originally from The Gambia, Baboucarr Njie is 28-years-old and played college soccer at North Carolina Wesleyan University before joining Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship. He later featured for Rio Grande Valley in 2021 before moving to Phoenix Rising in December 2021, ahead of the 2022 USL Championship Season.
Welcome to Oakland, Baboucarr.
