El Paso Locomotive got on the front foot first scoring within the 8th minute of kickoff as Emmanuel Sonupe found the back of the net to give the visitors the lead.
Locomotive doubled the lead in the 14th minute through Noah Dellenmayer as the road team took full control of the game.
Johnny Rodriguez had a chance to pull one back just before the half but former Roots Goalkeeper Benny Diaz saved the penalty kick to hold the lead at 2-0 into the half.
Oakland pulled one back right as the second half started when substitute Anuar Peláez scored a bicycle kick in the 48th minute as the score went 2-1.
Oakland Roots fought to the end but it was not to be as the team finished in 10th place missing the playoffs for the first time in history,
